American Cancer Society

In 1913, 10 physicians and 5 laymen founded the American Society for the Control of Cancer. Its stated purpose was to disseminate knowledge concerning the symptoms, treatment, and prevention of cancer; to investigate conditions under which cancer is found; and to compile statistics about cancer. Later renamed the American Cancer Society, Inc., the organizacion now consists of over 2 million volunteers working to conquer cancer.

Coalition of Cancer Cooperative Groups

The Coalition of Cancer Cooperative Groups is a unique nonprofit organization with one mission, improving patient awareness of cancer clinical trials, facilitating access, and promoting participation. Through innovative programs and services, the Coalition examines and confronts ket issues impeding cancer research. The Coalition offers a variety of programs and information for physicians, patient advocate groups, and patients designed to increase awareness of, and participation in, cancer, clinical trials.

National Cancer Institute

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is one of 11 agencies that compose the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The NCI, established under the National Cancer Institute Act of 1937, is the Federal Government's principal agency for cancer research and training. The national Cancer Act of 1971 broadened the scope and responsibilities of the NCI and created the National Cancer Program.
