Welcome from Principal Investigator, James N. Atkins, MD
The Southeast Cancer Control Consortium (SCCC) is group of community oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, and urologists located in a five-state southeast area. The SCCC physicians are committed to bringing cancer clinical trials to their community. Clinical trials are recognized as representing the cutting edge of medicine. The SCCC is committed to bringing “state-of-the-art” cancer treatment to each of our communities. These trials are reviewed and approved by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
Each SCCC community has doctors that are dedicated to clinical research as well as patient care. We have over 200 cancer clinical trials available but not all clinical trials are available in each community. If the specific clinical trial is not available in your community, you may need to travel to one of our communities.
The number of people traveling a distance to participate in clinical trials is increasing. They are recognizing the benefits for themselves as well as for their children and grandchildren and the need for advancing the science of cancer treatment.
The aim of our website is to provide avenues for clinical trials through our participating doctors. We have provided important links to other research areas and links to offer basic information on clinical trials and care for a cancer patient. Our doctors are committed to quality care to assist you or your loved one with treatment for cancer. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) represents a wonderful resource for clinical trials. Please visit their website to learn more about research and clinical trials.
We encourage you to contact any of our SCCC doctors participating in the clinical trial program. Our goals are to cure cancer today and to prevent cancer in the future.
I have been a part of the SCCC for almost 20 years. My colleagues and I are extremely committed to provide you or your loved one “state-of-the-art” clinical trials.
